If after examination, Dr. Ben finds that you have a condition called periodontitis, also called gum disease or periodontal disease, he will discuss the findings and areas of concern with you and recommend a hygiene protocol that involves dental cleanings below the gumline to remove the bacteria and buildup causing the periodontitis. Periodontitis is a serious gum infection that damages the soft tissue and, without treatment, can destroy the bone that supports your teeth and cause teeth to loosen, shift or lead to tooth loss. Periodontitis is common especially after the age of 30, but largely preventable and treatable.
Dr. Ben and our hygiene team have established an excellent periodontal program that has helped many patients avoid tooth loss and maintain healthier bone levels. It’s important that if you have been diagnosed with periodontal disease that you understand this condition won’t go away with better home care alone and it isn’t reversible, however with professional periodontal treatment and maintenance we can treat your periodontal disease and prevent further complications. Dr. Ben may recommend one or more of the hygiene protocols below to treat your gum disease.
